Suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have reportedly attacked a Nigerian Army formation in Adamawa State, killing at least two soldiers and destroying military assets.
The assault targeted the Garahamojili military camp on Sunday, where insurgents engaged troops in a fierce gun battle that reportedly lasted about 20 minutes.
Sources indicate that the attackers eventually overran the position. Two soldiers were confirmed dead, while an unspecified number of others are believed to have sustained injuries during the exchange of fire.
The assailants allegedly set parts of the camp ablaze, destroying structures and burning three military vehicles stationed at the facility. They were also said to have carted away weapons and ammunition before retreating to an undisclosed location.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian military has yet to issue an official statement clarifying the circumstances of the attack, casualty figures, or the extent of material losses.
Adamawa State, which shares a border with Borno State — widely regarded as the epicentre of Nigeria’s insurgency — has experienced intermittent security breaches in recent months, raising renewed concerns over the spillover of extremist violence.
